Anton Delecca Quartet
Sun 16th February @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm$15 – $20
Tenor saxophonist Anton Delecca has just returned from two and a half years in New York, completing a MM in Jazz Studies at the Aaron Copland School of Music, the program created by master saxophonist Jimmy Heath. He has been performing, writing and arranging consistently there and has just completed recording a new album in New York. The recording consists of a stellar rhythm section and also features alto saxophone prodigy Immanuel Wilkins on three tracks.
This group is based on the quintet from that recording (with the remaining repertoire has been augmented to include alto saxophone). The band features Delecca’s long term collaborator Danny Fischer, along with a group of young Melbourne musicians who are completely new for Delecca: Flora Carbo (alto saxophone), Kade Brown (piano) and Ben Hanlon (acoustic bass).
The band will primarily play original compositions by Delecca, along with arrangements of selected standards. The compositions are passionate, and the music is informed by a deep love and respect for jazz history and tradition, along with a diverse range of influences including, folk and rock (particularly singer/songwriters), gospel, spiritual jazz, 70s acid fusion (Steve Grossman, etc), and music from the current NYC jazz scene.
