For this occasion, he is joined by long-time colleagues Ben Robertson (double bass) and Tony Floyd (drums) to play two sets with different combinations of guests, who include Angela Davis (alto saxophone), Michelle Nicolle (vocals) and Carl Mackey (tenor saxophone), as well as the masterful veteran John Hoffman (trumpet and flugelhorn), who is based in northern NSW.

Guitarist/composer Stephen Magnusson is one of the most versatile and distinctive musicians in Australia. He will be performing in a duo with longtime collaborator, the highly respected drummer Dave Beck.

For the first time since the pandemic, “The Fellas” (led by bassist Rodrigo Aravena, on a brief visit from Zurich) will get together and play their unique brand of jazzy, funky “Latino” grooves. A band to dance to or simply to sit back and enjoy, the Fellas do a little bit of everything, but with heavy emphasis on groove and improvisation.

Featuring wordless vocals, a folk sensibility and generous collective ensemble interplay, this group will be playing all original music from Swinn’s recent release Old Idea/New Idea  (on Lionshare Records), which was launched at the Wangaratta Festival.
