The Spence/Buck duo comprises Sydney pianist and composer and Berlin-based drummer Tony Buck (who has been touring here with The Necks), performing improvisations, and launching their recently released debut album, Mythographer.

"Wield” was formed by Boston-born and Sydney-raised tenor saxophonist Sean Coffin over 2012-2014. Sean spent over 10 years living in Boston and New York, and studying with George Garzone, Bill Pierce and Bob MIntzer, and has been a part of the Australian jazz scene for over 30 years.

Peter Koopman with Sam Anning & Ben Vanderwal (Sydney/Perth/Melbourne) – Debut

For the past decade, guitarist, composer and New Zealander Peter Koopman has called Sydney home. With Perth drummer Ben Vanderwal and bassist Sam Anning he will present a program of originals from his new album, as well as some newer originals and a standard or two.

SNAJ – Debut

SnaJ is a sax/bass/drum trio that defies convention by blending traditional jazz instrumentation with electronics and effects. SnaJ comprises Blake Hansen (drums and synthesizer), Paul Maz (electric bass and pedals), and Omid Shayan (tenor sax and laptop).

Matt Hoyne’s Rootin’ Tootin’ – debut

Featuring some of Melbourne’s best improvisers, the music revolves around open compositional forms and specific rhythmic material. This is designed to facilitate structural and thematic improvisations that rely less on genre-specific references and more on the culmination of voices in the ensemble. Rootin’ Tootin’ consists of Eugene Ball (trumpet), Matt Hoyne (guitar), Sam Anning (double bass), and Lewis Pierre (drums

Dasika/Keller/Svoboda

The Jazzlab 27 Leslie Street (off Brunswick Street), Brunswick, Victoria

Dasika premiered this project with the MJC at the start of 2021, combining acclaimed pianist Andrea Keller and the then recently migrated emerging bass virtuoso Helen Svoboda (recipient of 2020 Freedman Jazz Fellowship, and the AAO’s ‘Pathfinder’ Music Leadership program for 2020/2021). They have developed since that premiere, and will present a concert of contemplative, minimalist new compositions.
