Jex Saarelaht Quartet feat. Grant, Anning, and McLean

For this concert, pianist/composer Jex Saarelaht is joined by three outstanding musicians - eclectic multi-instrumentalist Steve Grant, here performing on trumpet, master-bassist Sam Anning, and winner of the 2016 Freedman Jazz Fellowship, drummer James McLean.

Anatomical Heart is a collaborative trio who focus on the spontaneity of each moment. Together they create colourful musical cells, glitchy rhythms and vibrant soundscapes, using prepared piano, bass, drums and collected objects. Nick Haywood Trio

Nick Haywood (bass), Colin Hopkins (piano) and Niko Schauble (drums), The trio play original repertoire and some lesser-known tunes by other composers, and never discuss arrangements, tempos or grooves prior to performing, resulting in fresh, exciting collaborative improvising.

Bram De Looze (Belgium)

On this debut Australian tour, Bram De Looze is presenting his fourth solo album, Spotting Gateways (released on the Dutch label, Dox Records). His playing is characterised by extraordinary technique, layered melodic insight, and leaving music ‘open to the moment’

Reuben Lewis & Huda Fadlelmawla (Brisbane) – LP launch

The Jazzlab 27 Leslie Street (off Brunswick Street), Brunswick, Victoria

Award winning Naarm based musician Reuben Lewis and legendary Meeanjin based spoken word poet Huda Fadlelmawla combine forces in their debut LP,Story of Another Soul. There is a vast, monolithic intensity to this collaboration.
