Tony Gould’s Birthday Celebration

For this occasion, Dr Tony Gould is joined by long-time colleagues Sam Anning (double bass) and Tony Floyd (drums) to play two sets with different combinations of guests, who include Angela Davis (alto saxophone) and Carl Mackey (tenor saxophone), as well as the masterful guitarist Stephen Magnusson.

Old Country, New Country & Willebrant & Williamson – 2 album launches

The Jazzlab 27 Leslie Street (off Brunswick Street), Brunswick, Victoria

the Old Country, New Country performance launches the group's eponymously titled recording. They are Paul Williamson (trumpet), Peggy Lee (cello), and Dylan van der Schyff (drums). Willebrant & Williamson is Paul Williamson (trumpet) and Karl Willebrant (ambient bassist, electronic artist, and producer). Their music features immersive textures and emotive expanses that allow the listener to conceive a visual experience through soundscapes and drones utilizing bass guitars, field recordings, and improvised performance.

Stephen Magnusson’s 50th birthday celebration

For this concert, Stephen Magnusson will be performing with his STOZ trio (which released a self-titled CD), featuring bassist Sam Anning, and longtime collaborator, the highly respected drummer, Dave Beck.

Diane Peters – Tamara Murphy Duo (Italy/Melbourne)

The Jazzlab 27 Leslie Street (off Brunswick Street), Brunswick, Victoria

On a visit from Italy, Diane Peters (harp and voice) reunites in a duo performance with Tamara Murphy (double bass) to perform a program of jazz-inspired originals and Afro American grooves and Improvisations, inspired by the styles of Alice Coltrane, and Anouar Brahem.

Holly Moore Quintet

The Jazzlab 27 Leslie Street (off Brunswick Street), Brunswick, Victoria

After being awarded an ABC Jazz Composition Commission, in late 2023 Holly Moore released her first project, Reunion, to high acclaim.  She is an artist with a unique voice that speaks to new and exciting changes in Australian Improvised Music. Her compositions have been described as “majestic” (in a review in “The Age”). This concert features Holly Moore (soprano and alto saxophone), Matt Hoyne (guitar), Matt Steele (piano), Robbie Finch (double bass) and Luke Andresen (drums).
