Since leaving his teaching position at the University of Tasmania in Hobart, bassist Nick Haywood has concentrated his energies on a return to performing on the Melbourne scene, and in Prague, where he is spending several months each year. He recently completed a European tour with a trio with pianist Andrea Keller and drummer Niko Schauble.

Nick’s latest project band is “The Colourful Racing Identities”, comprising alto saxophonist Cheryl Durongpisitkul, trumpeter Eugene Ball and drummer James McLean, combining with Haywood. Together they explore textures and grooves in the “chordless quartet” format, performing original pieces from all members, as well as some free improvisation. Expect the unexpected as CRI delves into uncharted waters in this debut performance.
