Paul Cornelius Trio & Freudian Sleep – Debuts
Thu 30th November @ 8:30 pm - 10:30 pm$15 - $20
Paul Cornelius (tenor and soprano saxophones) is a Monash graduate, who is known for his melodic approach to improvisation. Having closely studied the improvisatory style of Graeme Lyall, it was only natural that he has performed in groups led by Tony Gould. He has also performed with the Monash Art Ensemble.
His Trio comprises fellow Monash graduate Hiroki Hoshino (acoustic bass), together with the more experienced Danny Fischer (drums), playing mainly standards, with some originals.
Freudian Sleep is composed of Joseph O’Connor (piano), Theo Carbo (guitar), James Macaulay (trombone) and Maddison Carter (drums), and will perform the second set. Freudian Sleep will present original music with a focus on synthetic and unconventional structures for improvisation. Formed as a conduit to experiment with unique systems of composition, it is nevertheless inevitable that the personal and romantic sides of each musician will ‘slip’ into performances.
