SUMMARY:David Rex Quintet
DESCRIPTION:Alto saxophonist David Rex makes a welcome return to the MJC roster after some extended forced breaks from performing (due to medical conditions). Since bursting onto the scene as a 17-year-old jazz saxophone prodigy\, Rex had firmly established himself on the Australian Jazz scene\, working with artists such as James Morrison and Barney McAll. In 2012 Rex released his third album\, Tour of Fate\, which was recorded in New York\, and featured Aaron Goldberg (piano)\, Reuben Rogers (bass) and Gregory Hutchinson (drums) performing Rex’s compositions. \nHe continues to impress audiences with his combination of prodigious technique and emotive musicality. On this performance he will be showcasing new originals with his latest group\, which reunites him with longtime colleague\, pianist Mark Fitzgibbon\, bassist (and sibling) Philip Rex\, and drummer Luke Andresen\, plus trumpeter Matt Jodrell. \n
