Cheryl Durongpisitkul is a young saxophonist currently studying my Honours year at VCA in the improvisation stream, after also attending the Banff International Workshop in Jazz and Creative Music in 2013. This year she has been working on a large scale piece for a mid-size ensemble (mentored by Eugene Ball, Scott Tinkler, Andrea Keller and Kate Neal) and is premiering a cohesive 50 minute piece based on elements of Stravinsky’s Petrushka. In addition to Durongpisitkul (alto sax, clarinet and flute), the band comprises Felix Watson (trumpet), James Macaulay (trombone), Lincoln McKenzie & Marcos Villalta (guitar), Harry Cook (piano), Stephen Hornby (acoustic bass) and Leo Kavanagh (drums).
