Melbourne International Jazz Festival

The MIJF has announced some parts of their 2017 program, their 20th year. The opening event will see the return of U.S. vocalist Patti Austin, who is joining forces with James Morrison and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra to pay tribute to a musical partnership between two giants of jazz, Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong. They appear on Friday 2nd and Saturday 3rd June at 8pm at Hamer Hall.
Armenian pianist, vocalist and songwriter Tigran Hamasyan is one of the most stunning talents to emerge on the international jazz scene in years, with seven critically acclaimed albums and a host of awards to his name, including the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Piano Competition, which he won at just 19 years old.

He brings his virtuosic blend of jazz, rock, electronica, poetry and Armenian folk tradition to Australia for the first time, performing works from his new solo album. He will perform at the new Bennetts Lane Jazz Club on Tuesday, June 6th and Wednesday, 7th at 9.30pm
